Sri Lanka T20 squad for the South Africa tour

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced T20 squad for the upcoming three match T20 series against South Africa which starts on 20th January 2017.

Uncapped batting all-rounder Thikshila De Silva has been selected for the squad, the former Mahinda Colleage all-rounder, is currently playing for the Chilaw Marians Cricket Club. A left-handed batsman big hitter, his strike rate is 144 in domestic T20 cricket and blows right-arm seam.

Right-arm seamer Nuwan Kulasekara and left-arm seamer, Isuru Udana have been earned recalls to the squad while Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep are the remaining seamers in the squad and fast blower Dushmantha Chameera has been dropped from the team.

Left-handed top order batsmen, Danushka Gunathilake and Niroshan Dickwella returned to the T20 squad. The last T20 team members which played with Australia, wicket- keeper batsman, Kusal Perera, all-rounder Thisara Perera who is currently playing in Big Bash League, Chamara Kapugedara, Dasun Shanaka, Sachithra Senanayake, Milinda Siriwardena and Kasun Rajitha have been left out from the squad.

Also a left-arm spinning all-rounder Sachith Pathirana, Asela Gunarathne, left-arm chinaman Lakshan Sandakan, who has played three Tests and an ODIleg spin blower and a big hitter Seekkuge Prasanna have been selected for the 15-man squad.

Sri Lanka’s fast blower Lasith Malinga has been ruled out from the squad due to his knee injury. And he will return for the three-match T20 series against Australia which is scheduled to commence in February 2017.

The first T20 match will be played in Centurion 20th January. The second and third matches will be played in Johannesburg and Cape Town on 22nd and 25th January respectively.

Last year, Sri Lanka played 16 T20I matches and won 3 matches, lost 13 matches.
